The cannabis industry isn’t just about joints and edibles anymore. As recreational and medicinal cannabis achieves legalization in numerous states, entrepreneurs are finding new ways to sell the product. You might be surprised to learn how many celebrities have entered the cannabis business recently.

Jim Belushi

Jim Belushi started a cannabis farm back in 2015, and he has grown from an initial 48 plants to 93 acres of various cannabis strains. As an actor and comedian, he worked with the Discovery Channel to document the growth of his brand in the 2020 “Growing Belushi” series.

Beyond his stake in the cannabis industry, Belushi is also an advocate for those who have been unfairly incarcerated due to cannabis use. As he expands his brand across several states, his advocacy work only reaches wider audiences.

Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson launched a cannabis brand in 2018, combining resorts and cannabis products into Tyson 2.0. Tyson is another cannabis advocate, crediting the drug with improving his mental health. So, the former professional boxer provides his unique products to the stoner world to give others the same experience—with a personal flair.

Martha Stewart

One of the more surprising celebrities in the cannabis business, Martha Stewart, collaborated with Canopy Growth in 2020 to debut Martha Stewart CBD. Martha’s approach aligns with a wellness brand, focusing on fruit-flavored CBD gummies designed to improve sleep, increase relaxation, and reduce stress.

“So many CBD gummies I’ve sampled have been disappointing,” Martha told People in 2023, “so I wanted to elevate this category by making CBD a more accessible and pleasurable experience.”

Gwyneth Paltrow

While she didn’t find a brand herself, she invested in the cannabis beverage brand Cann. Marketed as a THC-infused “social tonic” that offers a slight high without the aftereffects of alcohol, Cann has become relatively popular in its space. Despite the difficulty of marketing cannabis beverages, the company has solidified its position with Paltrow’s help.

Seth Rogen

Seth Rogen is notably open about his marijuana use, so it makes sense that the actor would venture into the cannabis industry eventually. Rogen founded the Houseplant lifestyle brand alongside Evan Goldberg and Michael Mohr in 2019, a company aimed at providing quality cannabis accessories to its customers alongside quality cannabis.

Jay-Z

Jay-Z is in the luxury cannabis business, producing a few famous products with his Monogram company. Perhaps most notable is the “OG Handroll,” a $50 weed cigar rolled by hand. Jay-Z is also the chief brand strategist at the Caliva cannabis company, and he maintains a $10 million fund to help cannabis startups owned by underrepresented groups.

A Growing Industry

Even in celebrity circles, the cannabis industry is gaining significant popularity. As the drug gains national acceptance and customers start looking for unique cannabis products, these celebrities are already ahead of the competition. It remains to be seen just how many celebrity brands will find their way into the world of cannabis, but this is a promising start.
